Kim Johnson

Director of Resourcing (VAUMC)

Kim Johnson has been part of the Mission Rivers District team for about nine months in a role that bridges two worlds: half of her time is dedicated to conference-wide projects through the Virginia Annual Conference, and the other half supports six districts, including the Mission Rivers District. For MRD, that means maintaining the website, streamlining communication, and getting information into the hands of churches. She also makes a lot of forms.

Kim holds a Master of Christian Education from Union Presbyterian Seminary, with a focus in youth ministry and digital ministry. She is a member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church, where her husband serves as pastor. She’s also the mom to two amazing teens.

Get to Know Kim

When can I reach you?

Email is the best way to connect. I work remotely and pop in for staff meetings and occasional other gatherings.

What brings you joy outside of work?

My family and yarn — I learned to crochet during the pandemic and haven’t stopped.

What surprises people about you?

I’ve played soccer my whole life and still do. I’m a behind-the-scenes person at heart, but I love teaching, which puts me directly in front of people regularly.

What’s your favorite part of this work?

The team, and the chance to do behind-the-scenes work that helps connect churches to the district and puts resources where they are needed.

What else would you want folks to know about who you are and/or what you do?

Communication and ministry keep me busy day to day, but youth ministry has been close to my heart since I led my first sixth grade small group back in 1997. I’ve spent nearly three decades walking alongside middle and high schoolers and consider it one of the great privileges of my life.
